Portrait & Lifestyle Photography, Perth.

Wow, time flies. It’s been (much) longer than I’d like from my last post but here we are :)

In today’s post I want to talk to you about the really cool photo-shoot I had with Natalie over the long weekend. We went for a few different looks to help build her portfolio, so she could use more than one photo from the shoot without it looking like it was stacked from a single shoot. With a little bit of help from our good friend ‘composition’, I will get two in my portfolio too. End of the day, I think we achieved what we set out to do and we got four (maybe five) unique looks.

Ok, the first shot we did in my luxury studio ( more commonly, this might be called a lounge/dining area…“tomahto, tomayto). I do 99.9% of my shooting on location, I just don’t need studio space, for the few times I do, they are easy enough to hire. Anyway back to the shoot, I just wanted to get a few personality shots with a studio look. Portrait-Photography-Perth_by_Matt_Devlin Read the rest of this page »

Environmental Portrait shoot, Perth.

This week the thanks go to Barry and Lorraine and lets not forget their fantastic garden.

Environmental portrait, shot in Perth WA by Matt Devlin

For this photo I’ve stepped away from a photoshop heavy image and gone for a more natural look, for the simple fact that it suits them. Barry told me that they don’t use any pesticides or chemicals in the garden, it’s all natural. Birds, spiders and fish in the pond for the mosquitoes but I got eaten alive by the mosquitoes, so the fish need to lift their game!

Project 52, week 11 (now just called project…?)

Ok so it’s been two weeks and this is late…  very late.

This 52 was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be! Working well over full time hours running my business and organizing a shoot every week for the blog is tough but I’ve laid down a few leads for the next few weeks and we will see how it goes. I’m, in no way going to stop shooting, I will have to stop the clock and just shoot them as they come though.

Anyway enough about me, this week is all about the Huttons and my thanks goes out to them for helping me out with the project. Not only are the great pepole they were fantastic portrait subjects :)

Today, we pause the 52 for a week.

Like the title suggests, I don’t have a photo this week and I’m sorry guys but I’ve been busy getting the word out and we should be back on track for next week.

I will take this opportunity to put the call out, if you want to get involved just get in touch

Project 52, week ten.

Well, I had no-one to shoot this week and was flat out with work so I didn’t get to chase anyone up. I pulled a photo from my last trip home of Nifty and added some flames to the background and foreground. The photo looks nice but the lighting is all wrong. I’m considering this one as a very good concept mock up and speaking of this as a concept, let me know if you would be keen for this kind of portrait for yourself and I will fit you in for next weeks 52 :)

Ok, so you can get in touch with me on facebook and remember, if no-one steps up for the 52, it’s over guys :’(

Project 52, week 9

Wow I’m on top of the 52 this week, getting it posted early :) Ok so a big thanks to the Sturch family this week for their help creating this alternative family portrait.

The shoot started with the idea of Allannah juggling her four beautiful kids (any mothers out there connecting with that one?) and with that as our starting point, I started to plan the shot.

Project 52, week 8

Week eight is all the way from Darwin :) and the thanks go out to Nick and Mel. It was fantastic to be a part of their day and I’m very glad I got the chance to shoot something this cool with them.

Project 52, week six

This week the thank yous (is yous even a word!?) go out to Tammi.

I dodged a bullet this week. We thought about shooting this outside but decided against it for a few reasons and lucky we did too, because the day of the shoot was wet and miserable, not the best weather for books or cameras.

Project 52, week five.

This week I must send out a huge thank you to Greg, Bec and Cooper , this was not an easy one to photograph lots of laughs, lots of out takes and lots of photoshop to line it all up and get it square!

The aim of this shot was to put a bit of a twist on the “normal” family portrait, I think that worked really well. What I love about it is that for a studio type shot is has lots of life and personality in it the lack of those qualities can be the death of studio portraits, making them stiff and lifeless.
